Frequently asked questions

Which profile should I choose?

PDF/A-2b is the usual standard and right for most purposes. PDF/A-1b has the strictest requirements and is required by some government agencies. PDF/A-3b also allows embedded files - it is the basis for ZUGFeRD invoices.

Will the file get larger?

Usually yes, often significantly. PDF/A requires all fonts used to be fully embedded in the file. That is exactly what makes it readable long-term - and larger.

What happens to fillable form fields?

They become fixed page content: entered values remain visible, but the fields can no longer be filled out or changed. This is intentional for the archive format. Keep the fillable original if you still need it.

Is this enough for GoBD compliance?

PDF/A is a recognized format for audit-proof retention, but it is only one part. GoBD also requires immutable storage, traceability, and process documentation. This conversion does not replace advice from your tax advisor.
