Frequently asked questions

What encryption is used?

AES with 256-bit encryption by default-the current standard for PDF encryption. AES with 128-bit encryption is also available for older software.

What happens if I forget the password?

You will no longer be able to open the file. Recovery is virtually impossible with proper AES encryption, so store the password securely.

Can I restrict printing and copying?

Yes. You can choose whether the document can be printed, text can be copied, or it can be edited. Note: These permissions rely on the PDF viewer's cooperation-the password protection itself is cryptographically effective.

Is my password transmitted?

No. Encryption and password entry happen only in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server.

What makes a password secure?

At least twelve characters with uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters-and do not reuse a password you already use elsewhere.
